Does hypnosis work to lose weight?
Hypnosis conjures up images of a bearded man with piercing black eyes and a deep haunting voice a pendulum swinging back, singing, "You are very sleeeeepy." Hypnosis is terribly misunderstood and the only exposure to the hypnotic Most people will never have a show in Las Vegas stage. But the stage hypnosis for entertainment and hypnotherapy for behavior change are animals completely different. Can "real" hypnotherapy help you get leaner?
I wondered the same thing myself for decades, ever since I started bodybuilding.
In the late 1980s, Dr. Judd Biasiotto published numerous books on the spirit of sport including one called "hypnotize me and make me bigger."
That 70-page book, which is long gone exhausted (but still holds a sacred place on my shelf), was one of the books that have attracted my interest in the power of mind and hypnosis.
In If you are not familiar with the strength sports, Dr. Judd is the guy who has squatted 605 pounds for a body weight of 132 books – an astounding feat, as any powerlifting will tell you. When a world-class athlete who also holds a doctorate in sports psychology say there is some thing to hypnosis, and that his mental training regimen contributed to its success, a teenage wannabe bodybuilder, desperate for muscle, listen!
All these years later, my interest in hypnosis and the power of the spirit never faltered. I used self-hypnosis and hypnosis CDs, which were aimed at improving performance in the gym, generating an intensity maximum during training and pushing through the pain barrier. So I do not see hypnosis as something magical, I think he been helpful. I also believe that a comprehensive program of mental training, which can include hypnosis, can make or break your program success weight loss and give athletes a competitive advantage.
Any experienced coach can tell you which plan or a training program you follow does not matter if you can not follow it strictly. Many of the problems such as non-compliance, self-sabotage, the inconsistency and lack of motivation problems are mind, body no problem.
One misconception about hypnosis is the fear that you will lose the command of your faculties during a session or a kind of "mind control". This is not true for any degree higher than your family, friends, colleagues or culture have "control" of your mind.
The fact is, the spirit is willing to the suggestion (especially the mind of a very young child), and in that sense everything hypnosis. Read the newspaper or watching television is hypnosis or "mental programming" in a sense. You get "programmed" by social norms to become one of the masses, unless you a choice of being different and become what you want to be.
Another source of misunderstanding about hypnosis comes from stage hypnosis, that has little to do with hypnotherapy for personal change. The hypnotist intentionally ferret out the most sensitive individuals in the audience – who happen to be willing participants – and then induces a hypnotic phenomenon for entertainment value.
Hypnosis, as used in the work of personnel changes, is simply a relaxed state of altered consciousness and increased importance, where the spirit comes aware of the track, allowing a message to the hypnotherapist to reach your subconscious more easily. When your subconscious receives the message, promotes positive behaviors, then hypnosis is simply a tool to change behavior.
Self-hypnosis (by yourself), is also simple as taking long breaths, get relaxed (sometimes using progressive muscle relaxation techniques), then make your viewing or repeating claims, or listen to your own homemade tape claims.
Many people report great success with hypnosis, but others do not. The mixed results have probably to do with the practitioner, and some with the subject. What kind of results can we expect from hypnosis? Can hypnosis help you lose weight or change your body in other ways?
I think there is a mind-body connection and that quite possible that the brain, central nervous system of the system in mind and the subconscious can literally "talk" to different cells your body and it could be a factor in curing diseases. I think the body is a remarkable self-healing machine and his own natural pharmacy.
I think it's pretty difficult to prove, but to be a legitimate science exists on this subject (it's called psychoneuroimmunology), the community Science seems to think enough of the mind-body connection to spend time, money and resources to investigate formally. There are many exciting and plausible theories. We also consider the placebo effect, where a belief can affect the biology of how truly amazing.
However, when it comes to hypnosis, I think you should do with an eye of caution and interest. First, and perhaps only, you should see hypnosis as a tool to change behavior. When you look at a claim by hypnosis, you should consider whether this claim is a result can be achieved by a change in your behavior.
For example, if someone promotes hypnosis for growth muscle, it is possible that your behavior might change in a way that you gain more muscle? The answer is yes. Hypnosis can help you change your eating habits, and you could push harder in the gym. Therefore, muscle growth occurs after a change in behavior – Eating better and training harder – rather than hypnosis itself.
It's the same with the reduction of body fat: Will hypnosis magic increase your metabolism to a mind-body connection? Although I like to keep an open mind, and I seriously doubt I'm not too enthusiastic about that hypnotherapists say they will hypnotize you and your metabolism will accelerate. If it can happen, I'm not sure will never be provable using the scientific method, he can finally go down to your willingness to believe the allegations.
So, could help of hypnosis with breast enlargement? Well, maybe. A thought can bubble up from your subconscious mind that is a good idea to save your money, go to the doctor, and the range in the three Great for implants (sarcasm intended).
Guys, I could give the same warning about hypnosis for broadening your …. uh … your amount of hair … Yeah, hair growth is it … Be wary of requests for these hypnosis hair growth. I'm not so sure I believe them (smile).
What about weight loss?
Although the results are not definitive, there is some research in clinical psychology has been published in journals that shows positive results of hypnosis to lose weight. In Part 2 of this series, you will hear more about what these studies have found.
Even more telling, in my opinion are few documented cases of medical hypnosis, ranging from simple pain relief from dental work to surgery without anesthesia (which which is rather odd if you think about it). The mind affects the body.
I think of hypnosis or hypnosis CD can be a valuable addition to a complete fitness, nutrition and lifestyle for some people, if you get them from a reputable and qualified hypnotherapist.
Even better, I think the ideal type of the session include the supervision and education awareness as well as traditional hypnosis, not just a passive situation, where you listen to your mind and expect to be positively "programmed".
Then again, I think that's why the CD Weight Loss Hypnosis sell like Gangbusters, because they are often sold under the pretext that you have absolutely nothing. Just listen and lose weight – the perfect "quick fix. "
I do not think is that simple or easy. You must accept the responsibility for change, take an active role in creating change and have a bias for action if you really want to succeed. You have to work physically and mentally at the same time not just "think positive" or rely on help CD car of any kind.
So while I think hypnosis can be a valuable tool at the end of the day, the programming of your mind success all comes down to what you say to yourself (and see / read / listen), most of the time. You can not work with a hypnotherapist every day for the rest of your life, but you do not speak to you non stop every day, and repetition is a proven way to condition the mind.
The way you speak for yourself, for the most part, is "hypnosis", if you think about it … is self-hypnosis.
If you already have formal training and nutrition plan, but you're having challenges with the next behavior change things, I hypnosis positive mental programming or CD might be worth trying as an additional tool in your "mental training" took kit.
Just remember that in the long run, you are your own best hypnotherapist and when it comes to claims that the buyer beware.
