Acrophobia – fear of heights – is a condition that we treat regularly here in our centers hypnotherapy
Although often wrongly called "Vertigo", acrophobia is a true extreme and irrational fear of being in high places. For the individual acrophobic, however, perception is everything – a high may simply be nothing less than two rungs on a ladder, for example.
(Vertigo is the feeling dizzy or swimming which occurs when the head is not actually turning. It can be triggered by movement – standing or sitting too quickly, or simply because of the prospect visual person.)
Acrophobia true can indeed be dangerous, because the feelings of anxiety that it produces can so easily become a real panic when the patient is very high. And someone who is in the midst of the panic may be in the worst possible position to take down safely.
Symptoms of acrophobia are very similar to other anxiety disorders. Often, symptoms such as rapid breathing, shortness of breath, rapid heartbeat, dry mouth and feelings of nausea are experienced by the individual acrophobic.
Often, the person who suffers from acrophobia adopt an avoidance strategy that can really restrict their daily activities and the determining and allocating such things as rental, visiting friends and relatives, and even having an impact on their lives.
Although may be quite natural to have a healthy respect and a degree of apprehension regarding the height under the instinctive survival mechanism with which we are all born, the term phobia is awarded to those who feel extreme fear in this regard.
Usually, people true of acrophobia suffered a frightening experience or experiences in their past that have produced a scholar or "conditioned reflex" to revive size. Sometimes even the acrophobia may be caused more or less by proxy, the child learning to fear with empathy by mimicking an adult during the formative years of the child.
Whatever its cause, acrophobia is a fear that emanates from the spirit that we call the unconscious.
This, of course, is the home and repository of all our beliefs and the driver of all our feelings. It is from the unconscious that our feelings are, and if we come back to make any truly effective treatment for acrophobia.
